Privatdozent (PD) Dr Julian Mehl is a specialist in orthopaedics and trauma surgery with a proven focus on knee surgery and sports orthopaedics. As a certified knee surgeon of the German Knee Society (DKG), he stands for modern, evidence-based and joint-preserving orthopaedic care.
A central focus of his work is the diagnosis and treatment of ligament, meniscus and cartilage injuries of the knee joint. These include cruciate ligament injuries, complex ligament instabilities, meniscus-preserving and arthroscopic procedures. Another focus is joint-preserving knee surgery, in particular axial and corrective osteotomies for malalignments and early forms of osteoarthritis.
His clinical work is complemented by intensive scientific work with more than 100 specialist publications and lectures in the field of sports orthopaedics and knee surgery. In addition, PD Dr. Mehl is heavily involved in continuing medical education and training. He is an AGA Faculty Member, AGA Expert Knee and Head of the DKG Committee on Ligament Injuries. He is also an active member of several scientific societies and working groups.
PD Dr. Mehl studied at LMU and TU Munich. He received his licence to practise medicine and habilitation at the Klinikum rechts der Isar at TU Munich. During this time, PD Dr. Mehl gained additional experience at the University of Connecticut in the USA. Most recently, he worked as a senior physician at the Klinikum Rechts der Isar. PD Dr. Mehl has been practising at ECOM since January 2026.
A native of Munich, he has many years of experience in caring for competitive and professional athletes and has been a cooperation partner of the German Judo Federation (DJB) medical network since 2021. His own athletic career in the national judo team shapes his understanding of the special requirements of athletically active patients.
