Hip arthroscopy

Hip arthroscopy

Until a few years ago, arthroscopies of the hip were used for purely diagnostic purposes. Hip surgery was limited by greater access difficulties due to the special shape of the joint, as the socket of the hip encompasses the head. Furthermore, the hip is a very deep joint with a strong and voluminous muscle envelope . Special technical developments for improved access have solved this problem. Nevertheless, hip arthroscopy is still a very specialized and technically demanding procedure that should only be performed by experienced and skilled surgeons.

During a hip arthroscopy, the arthroscope with a camera and light source is inserted into the joint through a small skin incision. The interior of the hip joint with the joint space between the head of the femoral neck head and the socket, the neck of the femur, the lip of the hip joint and the outer hip joint area enclosed by the joint capsule can thus be viewed.

After the diagnostic arthroscopy, a second approach is used to surgically treat the diseased areas with the smallest surgical instruments. Highly specialized hip experts can remotely control these instruments to perform delicate procedures on the hip joint during hip arthroscopy.

Timely treatment with hip arthroscopy can prevent or protract hip disease and prevent permanent limitations. Especially the mechanical triggers and causes of hip osteoarthritis can be remedied in time, before the hip joint becomes painful, stiff and immobile due to wear and tear. If the osteoarthritic process has already started, surgical treatment of the mechanical pathologies by hip arthroscopy in combination with stem cell therapy to treat biological changes is a powerful combination for joint preserving therapy.

APPLICATION OF HIP ARTHROSCOPY

  • Treatment of a hip impingement syndrome of the hip joint (femoroacteabular impingement)
  • Removal of free joint bodies from the hip joint
  • Treatment of cartilage damage in the hip joint
  • Treatment of damage of the hip labrum (“cartilage lip”)
  • Treatment of hip osteoarthritis
  • Treatment of diseases of the synovial membrane of the hip joint
